Saturdays GlamFest.... Focus on the house of Gucci!

Saturdays are the perfect day for Glam and nothing speaks to Glam more than Gucci.  They are an Icon in the fashion world and I wanted to call attention the the woman behind the creative wheel...Frida Giannini, the Creative Director of Gucci.  Here's an article all about her....she's more than fabulous....she's a total powerhouse of awesomeness!!
Frida Giannini, Creative Director of Gucci
{Frida Giannini’s unique talent and modern vision have fueled her rise as the leading creative force behind one of the world’s most celebrated fashion houses.

Born in Rome in 1972 to an architect father and art history professor mother, Giannini studied fashion design at Rome’s Fashion Academy before apprenticing in a small ready-to-wear house. In 1997, she went to Fendi where she worked as a ready-to-wear designer for three seasons before being named designer for Fendi leathergoods.

In September 2002 she joined Gucci as Handbag Design Director. Two years later she was appointed to a newly created post, Creative Director of Accessories, where she assumed unprecedented control of bags, shoes, luggage, small leathergoods, silks, fine jewelry, gifts, watches as well as eyewear. Giannini flourished in this.

Using the Gucci archives as a starting point, she transformed house classics such as the Flora scarf pattern and equestrian iconography into novel and hugely successful designs.

In 2005, she was named Creative Director of Gucci Women’s ready-to-wear, in addition to her responsibility for all accessories. In 2006, she took over menswear, thus rising to sole Creative Director of the label. Giannini accepted this significant responsibility with aplomb, quickly establishing her individual stamp on the house. Her design approach and focused management style are informed by sharp confidence and decisiveness, as well as her uniquely feminine and distinctly Italian point of view.

The combination has proven to be powerful, as witnessed by her consistent ability to design collections, which not only influence global fashion trends but that are also directional at retail.

Under Giannini, a new design oeuvre for Gucci has emerged, one which celebrates the house’s inimitable past and its expertise in luxury craftsmanship, all the while adding youth, color and a playful extravagance.

Giannini has also assumed an expanded creative authority beyond just design. She personally developed the architectural and interior design environments for Gucci’s new store concept that has rolled out in major cities around the world. Additionally, she is responsible for the creative direction of all advertising campaigns and has worked with such illustrious directors as David Lynch, Frank Miller, and Chris Cunningham. Giannini has also been instrumental in bringing major celebrities to the brand, selecting James Franco, Evan Rachel Wood, and Chris Evans for fragrance, and working closely with Madonna, and Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna on initiatives for Raising Malawi and UNICEF, respectively.

Her broadening profile has allowed for increased social responsibility as well. She is deeply dedicated to and instrumental in Gucci’s continued partnership with UNICEF, and in February 2011, the US Fund for UNICEF recognized her with the inaugural Woman of Compassion award. In addition, Giannini is also on the Board of Directors of PPR’s Foundation for Women’s Dignity and Rights, an organization which fights violence against women and promotes their empowerment.

Giannini’s tenacity and unwavering vision have steered Gucci successfully into its 21st century guise. She is a new voice in fashion, one that champions a lighter luxury for modern times. Her innovative designs are a very personal interpretation of this venerable House: not only does she extract the very best of Gucci, but she has kept its privileged heritage firmly intact. Giannini’s strength of character and creative direction have earned her the Lupa Capitolina, awarded by the Mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno, and a Design Star Honor from Fashion Group International.

Fairytale Friday.....Babe to Bombshell

I have to admit....I love the Twilight Saga.  Its hard not to adore all the characters in this story.  Bella, Kristen Stewart is looking amazing on the cover of W's September issue....
While Kristen Stewart can definitely work it on the red carpet, she usually seems most comfortable in a pair of skinny jeans and Converse kicks. But in the September issue of W magazine, the "Twilight" star looks utterly gorgeous thanks to the retro glam "Valley of the Dolls"-inspired styling.

In the interview, Stewart reveals that although she never realized the "Twilight" franchise would become as big as it did, she's personally always had an interest in vampires. "I love me a vampire," she laughs. "I was 17 when I read Twilight, and at the time it was so perfect for me. The script was about young kids who think they can handle stuff that they just can't. And they're going to do it anyway. Because, why not? Just torture yourself. I relate to that. Vampires are a little dangerous -- and we girls like to test ourselves."

The last 'Twilight' book is filled with BFDs, things that people have been waiting for for so long," she notes. "For me, it was ridiculously dramatic: I get married, give birth, the baby has an incredibly accelerated growth rate we're all very concerned about, and I say goodbye to my dad for the last time ever. It was all big -- I could never go, 'Whew, I'm losing this character.'"

But while she definitely knew it was going to be tough to say goodbye to Bella, it took a while before the reality of it all really sank in. "I'd been anticipating that end-of-Bella moment. I was going, 'Oh, my God -- I wonder how I'm going to feel," shares Kristen. "And the last scene of the shoot was at the wedding. Every single character was there on set. At the end of that day, I was kind of whacked. And so I never really had that moment then. Instead, it happened later. We needed to film one more sort of honeymoon scene and we went to the Virgin Islands. After that scene, my true final scene, I felt like I could shoot up into the night sky and every pore of my body would shoot light. I felt lighter than I've ever felt in my life."

Unfortunately, Stewart still hasn't found a way to lighten up when it comes to her star status. "It's a funny thing: You want so badly for people to see what you do -- you're proud of it -- and I like the effect that movies have on people. But the attention can also make me uncomfortable. In certain situations, people say to me, 'C'mon, what's wrong with you?' I apologize. I love what I'm doing, but I'm a little uncomfortable."

Well, we certainly cant tell ...she always seems like such a 'real' person and we love that about her!

Kitch n Glitz! wonderful diy idea from {This is Glamorous}

A perfectly glitzy diy project shared by the perfectly glamorous Roseline from {This is Glamorous}.
Love it so much that I had to share it too.  I'm going to make these right away for this weekends art center party to top some fab little cupcakes.  Thanks Roseline! Love it

{you will need:}
 plastic animals
plastic candle holders
drill with 1/8″ drill bit
pliers
gold spray paint

{steps:}

1. use any type of plastic animal you can find, keeping in mind the size of the cake or cupcake you are planning to top; ones with a flat back work best
2. with the pliers, hold the animal steady, and drill a hole straight down, being careful not to come out the other side; the hole only has to be deep enough for the candle holder to fit
3. spray paint the animals in a few light coats, rotating them to cover all sides; note: gold/metallic spray paint will work fine without primer, but if you are using regular spray paint for colour variations, be certain to use a plastic spray paint or a primer for plastic, and always test one first

4. spray the candle holders to match

5. put on your dancing shoes & pop open the champagne
Enjoy!

Cleaning Out and Up!

I've been inspired this last week to clean out closets and also to re-do the laundry....
and this laundry room is total perfection.  So clean and crisp...I love the turquoise glass pulls on the upper cabinets and the sleek white finish on the table.  Those glass apothecary jars are to die for!
The most fab way to renewal ......Cleansing!

First purging of the old..... I'm going to follow the golden rule to the T this time and donate everything that hasnt been worn in the past year.  This makes room for just the pieces you love and makes room for new finds......AWESOME!

Once the wardrobe is cleaned out.......then renewal of the space itself can begin.  I'm loving the creativity used to make the most of these spaces.  I have a super small closet space right now so creativity is a must!

Dreaming!!!!! this closet space is about as big as my entire apt. right now!

More of that creative thinking here....so elegant!

Cleaning out every area of storage truly brings renewal!

Loving this vanity!  I'm also revamping the accessories area

Best thing of all about this is after I'm done.....I get to play dressup!
